Pak Ou Cave is located near the center of Luang Phrabang. This is an attractive tourist destination, brings spiritual values and has a great historical value.
This place existed before the arrival of Buddhism here. Earlier, animism belief had dominated in Laos and this cave was considered the sacred place associated with the worship for river god. Even when Buddhism moved here, the theory of animism continued to grow and has a harmonious combination with this religion.
Thus, people have expressed the admiration for this place by placing the Buddha statues there. And this has been going on for over 600 years!

In the cave there are thousands of Buddha statues in various sizes from hand-sized to the size of a person, made of many different materials such as wood, ceramic or animal horns. The impression for tourists when coming here is the wooden statue painted red or black.
The number of statues here is plentiful (about 4,000). The statues attract tourist by a variety of shapes and shades.

When approaching the entrance to the cave from Nam Ou River, you will encounter the high cliffs and the river.
You can also visit Kuang Si Waterfall nearby. This waterfall is an interesting place here. If you want to escape from the heat, you can jump into the water and enjoy.
If you prefer a simple adventure, you can move forwards and walk around the area.
