Vietnam Weather & Travel Update: Central Vietnam Flooding - November 2025

Vietnam Weather & Travel Update: Central Vietnam Flooding

What’s really happening on the ground?

Heavy rain from November 10-15 caused serious flooding in several central provinces including Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, and parts of Quang Nam. As of November 26, 2025, water levels have dropped significantly in nearly all urban areas and major tourist sites. Vietnamese authorities and the ASEAN AHA Centre confirm the situation is now under control and main roads are fully reopened.

Important note: Many dramatic “underwater city” photos circulating on Facebook and TikTok are either AI-generated or old images from 2020-2021 floods reused out of context. Please trust only official sources.

Are Central Vietnam’s top destinations affected?

Da Nang

  • Da Nang International Airport: operating normally, no cancellations since November 20.
  • My Khe Beach, Dragon Bridge, Ba Na Hills: 100% open with sunny weather returning.
  • The old airport underpass (formerly flood-prone) has been cleared; traffic in and out of the city is smooth.

Hoi An

  • Ancient Town: completely dry since November 18. Lanterns light up every evening as usual.
  • A few rural roads to outlying attractions (Cu Lao Cham, Tra Que vegetable village) were briefly flooded but are now fully accessible.
  • Japanese Covered Bridge and assembly halls welcome visitors as normal.

Hue

  • Perfume River is higher than usual but well within banks (no flooding like some fake images suggest). Night dragon-boat cruises are running on schedule.
  • Hai Van Pass and Hue bypass road are clear.

Phong Nha - Ke Bang (Quang Binh)

  • Dry caves (Paradise Cave, Va Cave) remain open.
  • Son Doong Cave and certain adventure tours are paused until November 30 for routine rainy-season safety (this happens every year, not because of unusually severe flooding).

Destinations completely unaffected

  • Hanoi, Halong Bay, Ninh Binh, Sapa
  • Phu Quoc, Con Dao, Nha Trang, Mui Ne
  • Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Da Lat ⇒ More than 95% of Indochina.tour’s most popular itineraries are running exactly on schedule.

Weather forecast for the next 7-10 days (updated November 26, 2025)

  • Central Vietnam: scattered showers possible until November 30, but intensity much lower.
  • A new low-pressure area may enter the East Sea around November 29-30, but currently shows no signs of strengthening into a typhoon.
  • North & South Vietnam: beautiful weather, 24-31°C.

Practical tips if you’re traveling to Vietnam right now

  1. Book flights and hotels with flexible cancellation/change policies.
  2. Follow only two reliable sources:
    • National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting: nchmf.gov.vn (English available)
    • Official “Central Vietnam Weather” Facebook page by VTV.
  3. Pack a lightweight rain jacket and quick-dry shoes - showers can be sudden but usually last only 30-60 minutes.
  4. Prioritize northern or southern destinations in the next week for the most comfortable experience.
  5. Stay in touch with your travel advisor - we monitor conditions hourly and can adjust your itinerary at no extra cost.

Final word: Vietnam is still waiting for you

Central Vietnam is no stranger to year-end rains, and the resilience here is remarkable. Just days after the water recedes, restaurants reopen, smiles return, and Hoi An’s lantern-lit streets glow again.

This Vietnam Weather & Travel Update simply wants to say: Don’t let fake images hold you back. Vietnam remains beautiful, safe, and wide open for you.
